I'm not paying monthly on anything like that atm so nothing shows up for me. Which sucks, but oh well. Too late to do anything now.

Debit Cards are great but they do not have the theft protection of a credit card.

If you want to have a credit history a credit card is a good idea--you dont have to use it, but if you have say a visa/mc and say your fridge dies---you dont have to empty your savings to pay for it this month--you can pay it off on the cc in a few months (which has lower rates than the credit plan the store will offer you!).
If you want to go on vacation and want to rent a car--you will need a credit card. (dont think debit works for that one--as well as being 25).

Its a good idea.. you dont have to use it, but having it for emergency reasons is always a good idea (you can always have them set your limit low so you wont be tempted to use it---)

but ultimately its not our decision, its just a suggestion---take it or leave it.

I have heard stories that not using the card and having it can hurt your score just as much as not paying.

..that is news to me --for credit cards(I used to work in the credit industry as a credit anaylst for a major credit card company). Having a card shows you applied and were approved...use it once a year, shows you can handle having credit and you will pay promptly. NOT having any credit will make it harder for you to get things like: car, house, other loans....etc... as well as making your % higher on the payback for those (as compared to someone who has credit).
IF you are applying for a home loan, yeah, you need to close any open accounts you are not using and pay off the ones you are, you need to show you have little outstanding debt (having an open cc --even though you arent using it, somehow gets equated to you having another creditor you have to pay....so closing these when applying for a home loan is a good idea). Proving you have little to pay outside of your home is what mortgage lenders are looking at--and open accounts=creditors.

slayer-your car loan is sufficient to show you can pay, especially if you pay on time.

A LOT of kids come out of school with LOADS of student loans, which they have yet to begin to pay on, so right after college they have some major issues: do they have enough income to pay the loans, will they have enough income to pay other necessities (rent, food, gas/transportation, utilities..etc)? If they have had a credit card and used it, paid it off...it shows they understand (well kind of).
Pwnd, I believe, has no school loans (nice to have a parent on faculty)...so he has little credit history--it will be harder for him to get things like: rentals, utilities, etc (as he mentioned)....which is why we mentioned getting a credit card.

Yeah my first truck I bought in '08 I did not have credit at all so the bank would not give me enough for the size of truck that I wanted with a huge APR.

After 2 years of no missed payments, they let me have enough money for the size I wanted so that's what I have now. Other than the truck, I have no debt. =)

Ya I had no student loans or anything, so nothing to pay off. So yes, I am getting a credit card and I believe I am ordering it this weekend. Still takes time to build up a credit history though...

and yeah slayer--if you had had a credit card before you went for you truck loan the first time you would have probably gotten what you wanted then....but now you know (and if you have any other credit questions--4 years of being a credit analyst shouldnt go to waste----).

hubby made beef wellington for dinner (of course I had to go and buy the puff pastry since he thought in 2 hours he could make it

....some times he gets a weeeeeee bit over ambitious....but its a good thing

)..

got a new pillow too, hoping that it will help ease some of my headache issues--my old one was just not helping (especially since someone ELSE was using it half of the time

I had chicken and rice for dinner last night. Had it with my whole family actually. My brother, sister, brother-in-law and nephews were all there. So that was a lot of fun.

New pillows are awesome! I'm definitely gonna get 2 new pillows for my apartment. Going to be wonderful.

I cant believe its almost that time of year again, the summer is almost over and schools are starting up...time really moves much faster as you get older

It's bloody 30 degrees here, getting warmer and I'm not even south on the coast.

EDIT: Ah, I see Denmark. And Cosy is UK if I'm not mistaken. That explains the summer ending.

You guys should really come visit Croatia. The people are insane but the climate is great.

different parts of the country (heck different parts of the same county) start at different times...some start as early as the 15th of august, while others usually start by the end of the month---now colleges wont start until right around labor day (first monday of september).....yeah my nephew goes back on the 15th (florida)....and I see the signs saying stuff about freshman registration on the hs signs....so its just about that time ...again.

Oh hai guys. Contrary to popular beliefs I am not dead. Shocking I know! I have been working on moving into my new place. Finally got my internet set up and I am now set to go. Have also been going into school to get stuff ready. First day is two weeks from tomorrow! It's coming fast!
